PoE Planning Tips
- Always apply the 80% headroom rule — never load a PoE switch to its maximum rated budget.
- Cat5e cables over 80m can lose 12% or more power to heat — use Cat6 or Cat6a for long runs.
- PTZ cameras with heaters can draw up to 60W (PoE++) — verify your switch supports IEEE 802.3bt.
- WiFi 6E access points often require 802.3at (PoE+) or 802.3bt (PoE++) — check device specs.
- Group high-power devices on switches with higher per-port PoE budgets to avoid port power limits.
